| FSOPEN SERVER LITE | |
Kevin Freeman 29th Jun 2010 19:11:12 | I don't want to steal fsopen server lite, but rather create my own server software. FSOPEN serverlite just isn't good enough for me. If anyone could please give me a good starting point. Ie. what FSX files do I need to modify or whatever. How to make perminate admins. Thanks for your time- Chase |
Steff Missot ![]() 29th Jun 2010 19:30:13 | I'm not good in vbs scripting at all, but all i know is that you need to download MicroSoft Visual Basic
You can find it on the microsoft website for free |
Andy Halliday ![]() 29th Jun 2010 22:41:39 | If you dont like it dont use it ... and dont fly on fsopen! We use it on fsopen everyday and works well for all our members.
so stop insulting fsopen and the person that worked hard to develop it and let all members use it. How dare you ask for a starting point to make your own software on this forum. THATS MY OPINION AND IM STICKING TO IT. |
Peter Tiatto ![]() 29th Jun 2010 23:58:00 | So you want to create your own server software, because the software that this community uses isn't good enough for you?
And you have no idea where to start,in order to create your own? So you ask the creators/users of the software you don't think is good enough to help you.I'm sure there is some logic to your thinking somewhere, but i'm struggling to work out where. I've heard gamespy is great, perhaps you should try that :| |
Kevin Freeman 30th Jun 2010 00:39:15 | I don't mean it like that you guys! It is great but it isn't presonalized to fit all of my needs. I love it but i want to develop something for me! Come on you guys! |
Geoff Server ![]() 30th Jun 2010 09:15:32 | That's the trouble with posting on forums. If you don't get the message 'just right' it can be taken in all sorts of different ways. I suggest Kevin or Chase? that you perhapes are better talking in teamspeak to members about this as you might have some good idea's that FSopen might be able to add into it's software.
The words you used such as: 'just isn't good enough', 'rather create my own' might have been better worded. That is why you got this reaction from members. |
Dave Wave ![]() 30th Jun 2010 10:10:11 | Since the software is free I don't know how you can steal it but whatever!
Anyway, the software works by intercepting and generating internet traffic (UDP), no need to change anything in fsx. If you've got the technical ability that's realy all you need to know. How you cache admin users is then down to you. Good luck. |
Kevin Freeman 30th Jun 2010 20:20:48 | Dave Wave had realy what I want to know! Thanks man! Now I would like a little more information on just how to do it thanks! ;) |
Sam Tewodros 1st Jul 2010 08:54:05 | Hi all,
I tryed to use the Fsopen server lite on my windows 7 laptop, but it doesn't work, i read in the description that you should disable user account controll if u use windows 7 or vista, but i can't find a button on something like that to do that. Can somebody please help me? Sam |
Phil Arkwright 1st Jul 2010 12:05:32 | Hi kevin, If your starting of from scratch, using UDP and implementing it is very complicated, Dave is a computer wizard as he does it for his job :). If you just want to make a simple Flightplan Receiver and Sender use visual basic and use FTP server to upload and download FlightPlans. Although I don think this is what your looking for. I was very new to visual basic and spent around 6 months, (2 hours every day) making the program. It was extremely good fun and I have come along way. Although its nothing near as good as what dave has made with his complete server. But I didn't want to make something like that as I didn't want to have to run it from my computer the whole time and I had made it for another website.
As I said your not going to be able to learn programming over a day. I've been learning as I said for 6 months and I still on know the basics of Strings, Arrays, FTP, IO.system, FTP, Stream Reader. ETC and intercepting traffic from FSX requires alot more knowledge than that. Just hope your not getting to ahead of yourself. If your interested buy a visual basic 2008 book for dummys :). What dave has made is fantastic, As I can appreciate as I have made a program and it took me ages :) GL |
Kevin Freeman 1st Jul 2010 15:16:49 | Thanks, Phil! Sound good that would be cool to do! But unfoutuantly I still would like to make a server hosting software like Dave said. So if someone could point me in the direction of how to do that. Thanks! |
Kieran Pollard 1st Jul 2010 15:42:05 | Just search around for tutorial on server hosting and as Phil said, programming is not something you can just pick up in 5 seconds. I am currently on a Computer Games Programming course, and therefore, have not done network programming, although I'm going to get some in over the summer. But it takes a lot of time to learn the basic of programming if you are starting off. So if you want to make one like Dave's it will take you one hell of a long time. Personally, I wouldn't bother unless you are already very adept with programming terminology and language.

Kevin Freeman 1st Jul 2010 20:46:09 | Yeah but still. Some can contact me using skype- pilotmanchase Help me, and walk me through the develpement. Thanks! |
Richard Stuchfield 2nd Jul 2010 08:59:19 | I don't understand Kevin. You want to write some server hosting software but don't have any idea about how to do it. It sounds like you want someone to write the code for you.
I'm sure if you have specific examples of a particular task within the programming development cycle people will help where they have the knowledge. But a broad statement of 'how do I get started' is pretty useless. I'd suggest you get yourself on a training course relating to the type of programming you want to do. Once you have the basic framework of code completed, you'll be in a better position to ask specific questions as you'll understand more fully where the problems are and where you might need help. Writing something like you're trying to do isn't a trivial task (as already stated) so unless you have some programming experience in this area, I'd say forget it until you've done some training. It's not fair to expect people here to walk you through each stage of how to write such a piece of software. Richard |
Kevin Freeman 3rd Jul 2010 01:35:18 | O.K. Well can someone point me in the right direction as in a toutorial site please. I have coded before btw. |
Connor Diver 3rd Jul 2010 08:40:04 | Kevin, im pretty sure you will not find a good full tutorial online, developing software like that takes more than just surfing and reading a few sites (obviously they might help you solve a few problems you come across), its years of practice, good luck with whatever you want to make and i would love to see it when its finished to see how well you got on, but im sure that none of us could give you enough help in the forums or any site could give you enough info to make a complete software package.
But good luck. |
Kevin Freeman 3rd Jul 2010 15:41:14 | Ok. I really am thankful for all of your posts. It has helped. On thing is that is anyone here could add me on skype and answer any questions I may have. I think that would work better! My skype- pilotmanchase that is without spaces. Thanks again! :) |
Kevin Freeman 10th Jul 2010 17:15:19 | As I said before, thank you. Please get in contact with me. :) Thanks again. |
