Steam and FSOpen - the future? | |
Tim Walters 12th Jan 2015 17:25:42 | Hi Dave
I will ask some direct questions as I, as a hoster and administrator of other communities, would like to know where FSOpen stands with the Steam community. Do you have any intention of porting over PilotAssist and/or FlightStrips and/or FSOpen Server to Steam? The Steam network has no really effective way for ATCs to manage users in session and no practical way of processing flight plans. FSOpen is much more than just a matching service and the tools that the product offers can be so valuable to the Steam community. I feel that if the product cannot be ported over, then FSOpen will become a thing of the past as new users coming to the FSX community are likely to obtain the Steam edition henceforth. This would be a real shame as the product can be of significant use to Steam users. Can you confirm you have taken up the offer to work with DoveTail (as offered in another post) to get FSOpen ported, and if not, do you have any intention to do so? Once again, as a hoster and as an administrator for other communities it would be good to know if WE need to start to making plans to get these two communities integrated. Dave Wave 13th Jan 2015 08:51:46 | Tim, Dovetail have not offered to work with fsopen, if they want to work with us then my door is always open.
Alas, it is not possible for fsopen server to work with the steam edition as they have made some big changes under the hood, probably as a result of having to use steam user credentials. It's not something I'm happy about but there's not a lot I can do about it. |

Tim Walters 13th Jan 2015 13:30:11 | Allow me to rephrase - have YOU approached DoveTail, or are you likely to?
