P3Dv2 & FSX on same server | |
Chris Globe 15th Aug 2014 15:30:05 | Is it possible to run a server that has players from both FSX and P3Dv2 on it? I have a spare copy of each available to run on my server, in case I need to use a specific version for the host?

Joe Clifford 15th Aug 2014 23:07:13 | Hi Chris,
I can't see why they wouldn't. The issue will be, however, FSOpen server. You will only be able to run one instance of the software (to my knowledge) therefore it will pick up either FSX or P3D not both simultaneously. I'm not sure how Dave has programmed it. I'm not sure about the ports used for P3D, however, providing they are different to those being used by FSX I don't see why there should be an issue. The you'll just need to inform your members of any port changes made. I could be completely wrong, however. Regards Joe |

Chris Globe 16th Aug 2014 15:52:51 | Hi Dave,
I don't want to run them on the same PC, I ideally want to be able to run one of them (P3Dv2) and have both FSX and P3Dv2 users connected to that server. Is that possible? |
Curley Campbell 16th Aug 2014 17:37:40 | IF you only have 1 server (i.e. PC) then you can only run either P3D or FSX.... as they are both really FSX... and you cannot run 2 "FSX's" at the same time, as Dave stated.
IF, you have 2 PC's (one for each) and you are talking about them both showing up here on FSOpen... that will work. You just need to register each with FSOpen. |
Joe Clifford 16th Aug 2014 21:03:19 | My Appologises, I was under the Impression they could be ran at the same time.
Chris, to answer your new question. No, it's not possible for those running FSX to connect to a P3D Server & the other way round. The only way for this to be technically possible is through AI injection, however, this isn't supported by FSOpen and it also doesn't provide the same level of detail as a normal multiplayer aircraft would do.
