Tonight at 9pm EDT (GMT-4) join us along the Appalachian Trail.

The Appalachian Trail has always been a fascination of mine, part of the reason is I live only a few miles from it and grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. As my flying career advanced, I had a goal of flying the trail as well as flying around the world but that seems to be a long way away time wise. So join us as we fly from Georgia to Maine and Follow the trail all the way up as well as learn some fun facts along the way. This is my real world stomping grounds and where I first cut my teeth as an airmen.

On this first leg, we will be flying 2 or 4 place trainers. I will flying the A2A Cherokee 180, however anything like a Super Cub, Cessna 172 or 177 will be fine for this flight, I plan to cruise around 110 Knots at 3000 feet AGL. The smallest airport on our route is 2200’ so please make sure you can land in that distance.

We will leave from Peachtree-DeKalb Airport (PDK) just North-west of Atlanta and head west on a short detour to Stone Mountain. We will then fly around the south face and shoot north for Lake Lanier and then on to the start of the Appalachian Trail, Springer Mountain. One we reach Springer, we will stop and regroup just to the North-West, at Blairsville (DZJ). Once we regroup we will fly to the Harris VOR (HRS 109.8) and follow the V267 to the highest ridge of the Appalachian Mountains. This ridge is where most of the trail is located on its way up to Maine. The Ridge lays about 33 DME from the Harris VOR. We will then fly up the ridge for about 30 miles before heading down in the southern Valley to land at Sossamon (57NC), a Private 2200’ foot strip. This whole flight should take us an hour and 20 minutes.

We will meet in the Flyrz server 71.231.12.143 and TS.Flyrz.net.
