Quite a bold statement some may say? But true.

We have a huge event coming up soon (to be advertised as soon as the final details are in place).

Dave Wave, I am expecting a good few hundred players to join my session over the course of a set day. I have a huge concern with the fatal error issues which lurk within fsx. Will the server be able to manage such a high amount of traffic at one time? How can I prevent the dreaded fatal errors for the guys? Unfortunately if one person crashes out, the session tends to freeze and get rid of a few more. Can you tell me the best way to optimize the server software and fsx settings along with pc settings which would help me to maximize server performance

fsx can handle 100 players, I've seen it.

Tips.
Don't have any add on aircraft on the server.
Turn all graphics down to low and framerate to 10 fps.
Kick players sending too many packets as the server then sends these to everybody else.
Don't use fsx voice.

Thanks Dave. We are expecting a lot of traffic so it will be interesting to see how it copes :)

David,

When you host the session does the hosting player sit in a control tower or a plane?

When you sit in a control tower the PC is doing extra processing in order to display session info on the screen. You must have experienced it yourself when in the tower, it tends to freeze quite frequently.

Try setting yourself up in a plane am setting the view to top down. Reduce the amount of visible scenery for the PC to render by zooming in.

As Dave said, reduce your scenery settings and remove all aircraft from your library that are not default, it's just more for your PC to process.

Make sure any extra programs on the PC that you are not using are closed. Change the theme of the PC to disable areo theme if on windows 7 or back to basic windows theme if on any other Windows OS.

Good luck!

I'll be sure to pop in :-)

This post caught my eye. A few hundred! How in the world did you manage to get such a substantial amount of people. That sounds amazing to say the least.

Hi joe.

I set the server up with minimal settings and in a control tower. Ill definitely bare the plane top down view in mind and put that into practice. The unfortunate thing for me is that the server hosting pc for the event is my main flight pc, so all of my aircraft eg PMDGs etc are on there. Do you think that a laptop with nothing but default, a good processor and 8gb of ram could handle the traffic? My issue is that sometimes I co trol from the server pc and also do bits and bobs at the same time, so I'm sure this actually interferes with it also. I shall leave it to its own devices.

Chris, we have teamed up with a famous Virtual Airline for one day. They usually fly on an FSInn/vatsim session and have kindly agreed to come over to us to carry out their scheduled flights for one day. The final details and schedules have not been finalised as of yet but the event is supposed to be going ahead this weekend, so long as all the organising has been completed, if not, it will be pushed forward a further week. They are an extremely popular airline and very rarely do they have under 200 pilots (plus guests) flying scheduled routes at any one time so hopefully, we will have a big turnout. The main aim of this session is to give the controllers at FSX Worldwide a chance to progress their experience and knowledge aswell as giving them multiple aircraft throughout the day. It is also a very good thing to give the pilots the Air Traffic Controlled regions though out their entire trip. Lets hope I all goes to plan though :)

Sarvesh, it is planned for this Saturday at FSX Worldwide. As soon as all the details are finalised, my website will be updated and a new forum thread will be posted.

Bad news I'm afraid; the airline that we had spoken to and arranged an event with (Emirates Virtual) have decided not too come over to us for the day. We haven't been given a reason unfortunately, I understand they have just bought in some new events managers who are trying out a different idea... A bit rubbish considering the event was two days away, but what can you do eh :/ so unfortunately we are no longer expecting the sort of traffic amount I had initially anticipated.

The Emirates Event will still go ahead as planned, starting in the early afternoon and containing into the night with a full quota of Air Traffic Controllers so anyone wishing to get involved is more than welcome; and as always, you are under not under any obligation to join our session on a permanent basis.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to apologise to anyone that has attempted to join our session or who has been randomly ejected. The server is now under the control of anther member of FSX Worlwide, unfortunately his Internet provider isn't providing the best service, he is on a low Internet speed and IP address continually changes. These interruptions will cease as of Friday as I will be resuming the control of the server. You may see the server listed until then in the session list with nobody on it; this is simply because it is not joinable. If you do get any of these problems, please email admin@fsxworldwide.co.uk and I will get the server changed
