| Disable Google Maps | |
Antonio Muñoz ![]() 6th Jun 2013 10:01:17 | Hi all
Its possible to disable our server google maps? We are doing military ops and each team can see the other one and its not funny :-) Thanks in advance Best regards |
Joe Clifford ![]() 6th Jun 2013 10:07:55 | Hi Antonio,
To my knowledge there is no way of doing this. The only way to make your map not so publicly accessible is by un-ticking 'Publish IP to FSOpen Session List' from the server software. This will remove your whole entry from session info list, however, if people know how to get the map up then it is still possible. Maybe Dave could build this function in on the next release? There are a lot of military ops groups out there now, one has already raised this issue. Regards Joe |
Curley Campbell 6th Jun 2013 12:16:23 | "Integrity"... is a concept of consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes. In ethics, integrity is regarded as the honesty and truthfulness or accuracy of one's actions. Bottom line... it is "doing the right thing... even when others are not looking."
If I may... and please do not take this personal... there are also others that read this forum (just trying to "pass it on" so to speak.) Personally, as session "hosts/admins" ... it is "our" obligation to pass on a little... integrity.... to those whom choose to abuse (or cheat) in our session. Our sessions are only as good as "WE" make them. I am often criticized for having too many "rules" in my session. Our rules are a direct result of 6 years of hosting... and finding way too many individuals, these days. choosing to disrespect the session and others flying in our session... and our "rules" are strictly enforced for those that... "just don't get it". If I may suggest.. possibly it is time to "step up" on how your session handles this within your particular sessions overall structure ... and not rely on someone else to do our work. The choice is ours... not Dave's or some other software developer. |
Andy Mooring ![]() 8th Jun 2013 15:50:52 | Curly. I think you need to read Antonio's thread again. He's merely saying, in a comedic way, that the other TEAMS can see each other on the map view when they click the GO button on the session page of the site, hense the smiley face next to the word funny. Then he is asking if the FUNCTION for the map view can be disabled, or the link for the Button can be taken out so the other teams CANNOT click on it to see each other then making the "game of hide and seek" better. Yes of course its Antonio's choice of how he RUNS his sessions but when it comes to asking for something to be disabled/completely taken off thats within the server SOFTWARE, sorry, but that IS Dave's territory as he is the designer of the program after all. If there is/isn't a solution, Dave will let Antonio in due course as Joe has already mentioned. This thread is not meant to sound as I'm biting back at your heels Curly, just pointing out an observation thats possibly been misunderstood and has nothing to do with the original post in the first place. |
Curley Campbell 9th Jun 2013 12:28:28 | I understand and appreciate your comments....
Having seen the "each team can see the other one and its not funny"... and as I stated... my post was not a personal dig at Antonio.... and apologize if that was taken that way. Joe's comment also points out this issue not something new. The subject of abuse by some in a session while doing team combat... is not a new topic in FSX.... especially now that we can actually shoot each other down with the the new TacPack product. This can be vary disruptive. I was simply expressing my "personal opinion" on how to truly resolve the overall issue... directed at those new hosts that far too often want others to handle their issues.. AND those folks that tend to far too often tend to bend a little (abuse) to take advantage of the others in the event. Personally, abusers do not last long in my particular session... but hey I'm an old guy... brought up with a different set of values. Is was NOT intended to negate any new idea for improvement... as that in itself is how change is created. |
Antonio Muñoz ![]() 13th Jun 2013 11:40:02 | Hi all
No problem Curley, I understand your point of view and thanks for your words Andy. Waiting for any news from Dave Regards |
Dave Wave ![]() 14th Jun 2013 11:40:48 | Hi Antonio,
Even if I disable google maps for your session uses could still see other players locations by numerous methods. There is no point in me adding this option. |
