| Radical Weather In Open Clouds | |
Arturo Holguin 9th May 2013 18:12:28 | Whilst Flying through North America . I often get Radical weather.., Using open clouds. that causes my aircraft to lose altitude and gryo around the axis . It appears to me very unrealsitic. I often fly as a flight mechanic with my current employer. the last majior weather anoamlly was about 4 months ago were as we had a front that was filled with thunderstorms and sheets of rain rain at Fl 350 ... However every session In open clouds is filled with crazy scary weather . Are they any adjustments that can be made, Besides the standard push to update button ? were you just get weather and clouds ? In Open Cloulds? |

I used FSOpen Clouds for a while but there is nowhere near as much detail nor work gone into it as the two I've listed. It's a good programme if you are financially limited or haven't got the best computer for it |
Dave Wave ![]() 10th May 2013 11:59:17 | Hi Arturo,
The problem is with fsx not with Open Clouds, the same problem affects Rex/Active Sky. The winds aloft are set at different levels, a few thousand feet apart. e.g. 12000 feet 50 knots @ 340 temp -5 15000 feet 75 knots @ 270 temp -22 18000 feet 83 knots @ 180 temp -34 This is set for each weather point, so the next zone will be different, and sometimes very different. When you fly between these levels, e.g. 16000 feet in the above example, fsx will calculate a interim result. (Interpolation). As you fly from 15 to 18 thousand feet you would see the wind increase slowly from 75 to 83 knots and slowly backing from West to South. What fsx fails to do is Interpolate smoothly between areas. Move a few meters and the wind and pressure will change instantly causing your plane to lurch if the change in direction/speed is large. The problem is magnified if you are using accelerated time. If this is unbearable for you then try switching winds aloft off in open clouds. Alternatively look at purchasing Peter Dowson's FSUIPC which has a wind smoothing option that will work with any weather provider. |
