Mike Hill 27th Feb 2013 20:10:52 | I have been using a small feature of FSX for some years now, I picked it up from here...
https://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games/FSInsider/freeflight/Pages/AirportLabels-AnUndocumentedFeature.aspx In this little tweak to FSX, the Standard.xml file listed on the website is edited slightly by adding a few lines. It then displays airport names following a key combination press. It seems that, since I began using Open Clouds, this file has been rewritten without my edit. The lines I added have been removed and I have had to re-edit the file in order to get this feature working again. As yet, I am not 100% certain that Open Clouds is the culprit, I still have some testing to do. Has anyone who uses Open Clouds also have the same issue? |
Dave Wave ![]() 28th Feb 2013 09:23:10 | I am 100% sure that Open Clouds has not changed your file! |
Curley Campbell 28th Feb 2013 19:29:04 | Just as a matter of FYI...I also have used that for years and I do not use Open Clouds. I also have seen the "standard" file revert back to default, from time to time. I actually have a copy of the added lines saved in a separate notepad file.. just to make it simple to re-add using cut/paste. As of yet, I have not been able to identify the cause. It will indeed change, of course, if you "repair" FSX as it will revert back to default. |
Mike Hill 28th Feb 2013 21:11:58 | Thanks for your input guys. I will check it out further. I understand the "repair" bit and I haven't had to do that for a very long time, also, I had never had the issue of the file being re-written before. The only thing "new" to my set up recently was the running of Open Clouds which is why I thought that was causing the problem. Since I added my edit of Standard.xml back in, I have not had the issue but have also not run Open Clouds either. Thanks Dave, I have no doubt that you would have tested it intensely before releasing it to old folks like me and I did not intend any offence. Curley, I also now have a copy of my edited file stashed away safely so that I can copy it back in if necessary. |
