| Simple 2 Player Server | |
Luigi Maiorano 27th Feb 2013 05:51:39 | Hi all,
I am very new to FSOpen and FSX multiplayer in general, but i have been with FS since FS98. I just upgraded my computer (slightly) and had to wipe my hard drive due to a previous HDD corruption (virus). I was about to start MP with a friend on Gamespy, but discovered that it no longer worked. We only intend to do simple flights private flights to practice manuvering and other things. I was wondering if I could use my computer as the server as well as the player just for the two of us. I'm very confused how to do any of this, other than downloading Pilot Assistant (which I did), Wincap(which I haven't yet), and FSOpen Server (haven't done that either). My current system is a Dell Dimension 8400 with: Intel Pentium 4 3.4Ghz Single Core 3.00 GB RAM ATI Radeon X300/X550/X1050 GPU Internet speed is about 25gbs down and 3gbs up Any help with this would be greatly appriciated!!! Thanks!!! |

Why don't you and your friend just join a server already hosting? You are welcome to join RealFsx and go to a airport of your choice with your friend. Best regards |

You go to Multiplayer.. select LAN connection... and then select "HOST SESSION".. and proceed as usual. You need to provide your IP address from your PC's internet connection and give that to your friend. He then selects.. MP.. LAN... "DIRECT CONNECT".. enters your IP address.. and clicks "Find Session".
If you are behind a router with other machines in your house.. you will have to Identify YOUR particular PC IP address and "Port Forward" that IP in your router.. so your friend can find your machine.. rather than the Printer or something else on your home network. Also.. note.. if you have a standard "dynamic" IP address with your Internet provider... you IP address will change on power up/down of the router. That is also something you need to watch for. |

We'll give that server a shot... we just didn't want to end up on a server similar to VATSIM where everything is just too real. I'm more worried about viruses, so am I exposed when i connect directly to someone else's computer/server? that why we wanted to connect directly between the two of us so that we can eliminate or reduce that risk. Curley Campbell 1st Mar 2013 12:22:37 | IF it helps ease your mind... in all the years i have been flying (and hosting) in FSX... I have never received or heard of anyone getting a virus directly while simply flying in an FSX MP session.
Generally.. a potential does exist to pick up a virus when "installing" new add ons that use "auto installers"; which have an "EXE" extension in the file name. Just make sure you "trust" the person/company from which you are getting the new software, before installing. As usual... you should always have good anti virus/malware protection running on your PC... to help with your protection. |
