| Freeze on leaving sessions | |
John Newell 7th Feb 2013 15:58:29 | Not sure if it is just because we are becoming more aware of this issue, but it does seem to be more noticeable since the end of Gamespy and I would like to invite others to input some feedback.
When someone leaves the session (presumably by either crashing or just exiting without the "End Flight" option) the whole session freezes for all for several seconds and seems on the point of collapse. The lag thereafter takes up to a minute or so to fully resolve itself and catch up again. This does seem to be getting worse and is happening not only on our own ATCMagic sessions but some larger and faster servers too.I wonder if anyone else has noticed this (and whether you might have any ideas Dave?) |
John Newell 9th Feb 2013 18:52:18 | So. It looks like nobody else is seeing this phenomenon does it? Both ourselves at ATCMagic and also FlyairUK have noticed this, but even if nobody else has, it helps in that our problems maybe local and we can focus attention there. However, if anybody IS seeing this issue, please drop a line onto this thread, because everything we can all find and share will help the future of online flying, which is something we are most keen to do our bit for. |
Robert Cohen ![]() 9th Feb 2013 19:09:45 | what is your spec for your server ?
what is your internet speed for your server? we did have that problem when I hosting was on a low speed internet service and when the same payware planes came in it seems it kick people out at times |
John Newell 13th Feb 2013 16:02:16 | Hi Robert, It is happening on the ATCMagic server which is only a 16mb connection (nothing faster in the countryside) but is also happening on another server that I think, is BT infinity based. It is just that a big "Yug" flows through the server when aircraft leave or crash out, but that the induced lag takes up to a minute (worst case, more normally 5 -10 secs) before resolving itself.
On our part, I have been talking to ISP an hour ago and they noted that BT have decreased the performance on this particular IP due noise on the line. They reminded me of something I heard about ages ago, which is a filtered faceplate to replace the fascia on the BT Master socket which will help eliminate any local issues and conceivably increase internet performance compared to the usual microfilter mess that we all know so well these days. This is a cheap upgrade and worth investigating. Will report back when I have time to get it sorted. |
David Bartlam ![]() 16th Feb 2013 21:35:08 | John, I get this mainly when controlling. I've put it down (after research) that when a player leaves the session incorrectly (presses the red X) or leaves the session with ought going to End Flight> leave session, it causes a radar spike. You'll get the blue "loading" ring, the best thing to do is allow the server to catch up. It's basically interrupting the server, at least that's what I believe |
