Mike Sisti 26th Nov 2011 16:52:29 | Dave, i guess what i'm asking is will i need to run run it from my own computer or have it hosted by you people, We are looking for a dedicated 24/7 server that my pilots can log on to remotely and always have it running |
Dave Wave ![]() 26th Nov 2011 17:05:52 | You need your own server Mike. |
Steff Missot ![]() 27th Nov 2011 00:37:44 | If you want to have it hosted, you need a PC that's online 24/7 to host it from, since there are no companies that sell FSX servers, you have to host it yourself.
If this is no option, you could consider buying a VPS(Virtual Private Server) but those are quite expensive to use it only for FSX. |
Joe Clifford ![]() 27th Nov 2011 09:27:07 | It comes out at about $219 if I remember correctly. Have a look at this site:

Ian Whiteside ![]() 27th Nov 2011 12:39:37 | Well now.... $300 = very roughly about £230
To set up at home , I think Goffa reckons it costs him about £3.50 a week electricity to run for 16 hours a day. therefore about £4.50 for 24/7 . Then on top of that you have hardware costs - maintenance repair etc... You also can have connection and telephone/cable problems. So taking all that into account, is it not cheaper and better to rent a specially built, well connected, made for the job hosted server ? At Home --- 52 weeks @ 4.50 = £234 Hosted Server-- 52 weeks = £230 |
Mike Sisti 27th Nov 2011 19:53:43 | Thanks for all the Info, And you're right it is quite pricey. I do have a 2nd computer with fsx installed, so maybe i'll go that route |
Steff Missot ![]() 28th Nov 2011 14:29:00 | That will be a good solution, don't forget to forward your ports!:) |
