just wondering in regards to London Control in FSO when i control do i have every airport in england from surface up?? as i would like to controll it a bit more so everyone will have atc the full way and i can annoy Kieran and christian with my american RT thanks Stephen |

There a several limitations to this type of control method, this is primarily due to the FSX Radar, it is not possible to load up more than one radar profiles making it extremely difficult to provide an effective service for FSO Pilots. In its simplitist drawing a line (270-090 degrees) through Manchester gives you the basic divide of Scottish and London; though control positions seperate into sectors, which effectively means that Scottish has the capability to control aircraft all the way down in a small 'crack' at Honiley as an example. As I say, FSX does not allow itself for anywhere near realworld divide of these sectors or effective control ATCOs. We must to take into account the knowledge base of our pilot. Unfortunately the sectors and splits are not by any means easy to understand, and we can only really provide such services when making significant changes to the actual sectors, Say spliting the British Isles into 4. This, as far as I can see would be the only way (without changing software for '.contactme' 's to pilots) (or changing the radar!!) that we would be able to implement a real enroute control!! Saying all of this, Providing just 2 ATCOs one in Scottish Control, and one in London Control, would cover a 'top down service' (As you said Dubbie- Surface up) coverage for ALL Major UK Airports. As far as I can see there is no logical way to implement enroute control positions unless pilots are familiar with ground charts, software is modified, and clear 'Major airports' are defined. What I would say, if you're sitting in London Control, take LL, KK, LC, SS, GW, KA, Maybe GD too. So control 7 airports top down and enroute services, just dont be confident that pilots are going to contact you at the right time- simply as Having 2 Controllers responsible for 20 airports and the entire UK Airspace may seem pretty confusing for pilots! Of course if ran effectively- the pilots and controllers both benefit, but I dare say I beleive this has been tried in the past, I've tried Manchester TMA in the past providing top down for 4 airports (GP, CC, CD, and that other one :p) and had pilots flying any where but near Manchester!! At the end of the day, do you want 1 airport or a choice of 4? I know my view but I'm not convienced this is shared, perhaps try London TMA and see how you go. Anyway I'm well aware this is now a rant. But theres my thoughts on enroute! Christian |

I have thought about it alot when flying in unicom between Airport ATC controll. Why not have 1 or more controllers that leads us towards the correct VOR's and lined up for the AP radar. My understanding is that it does have two downsides. First it is very complicated to know all the routes and STARS and Vor's to the destination airports and secondly there is not that much traffic in the air at any given time. But it does get abit boring sitting in the unicom and taking shortcuts to make the tripp go faster because your bored. To wrap this up I would like to end by saying I know absolutely nothing about this and is probobly just talking b%¤locks.:p But would it be possible? And who stole my exam answears? Erik |
