Direct connection problems

I was wondering if someone could explain to me a full list of reasons why I wouldn't be able to get in to any multiplayer session. It just tells me that the connection has not be found (or something along these lines).

I've fully removed FSX from my comp, excluding Scenery files, I have SP1 and SP2, I now have no programs integrated with FSX eg. Squawkbox, FSP etc, so it's fairly standalone. I've checked my internet connections and all network sessions seem to be right. I've had the same error flash up for about a week now.

So any ideas?

1) Check that your anti virus's firewall is disabled (if you have one)that can stop port being opened by FSX on your router.

2) Check If you can get into a session or see them with your Windows Firewall turned off.

3) Disable your anti virus all together for the period that you pay FSX and then re-enable after you are done.

4) You may need to port forward to open ports that FSX needs to run smoothly online.

http://portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/Flight_Simulator_X/Flight_Simulator_Xindex.htm

Go to that link and find the model of router you have and you will receive instructions on how to open ports that FSX needs. Your Router/Modem model make and number should be located on bottom surface of router.

Thats all i can tell you for now. Tell me if it helps.

Gerard,

I'm not aware of any router that needs ports open to join a session. You will for hosting, but not to join someone elses.

Christian, sounds like a firewall issue, make sure fsx has permission to go out to the internet or/and UDP 6112 to 6122, again out only.

I'd stay well away from portforward.com

Can you get into sessions via gamespy?

Ok! More questions, and perhpas we might be nearer to solving this one. I've just tried to get onto FSopen through Gamespy, now ageeeeees ago I remember Geoff Server saying something about if the connection is displayed as (-1) it means I havent got something I should?

However, the session is showing up it says I need a password? Am I trying to get access to the right session?

Thanks in advance! :)
