Hi,

So I have two monitors set up and working fine- I can run the desktop and other stuff on the second monitor and FSX on the first. But when I undock a panel, such as the GPS, my FPS go from 30FPS to 12FPS. Untick undock and it goes back to normal. Does anybody know why?

Core2Quad Q8300 2.5ghz
9800GT 1GB GDDR3 256-bit (50% OC, but OC or not makes no difference to this problem).
windows 7 home premium x64

Strange, don't have an answer to that sorry Joe, it's just that it's the complete different for me as my fps goes from around 60-100 to around 120.

Holy $4!t Isak, what rig are you running to get that performance? I've got a similar set up to Joe and I'm lucky to get 20fps with fsx settings med to high.

Joe, mate I don't know. Mine does the same.

Got it kind of working now- I had my external FPS limiter and that bugged up all the new windows etc. Turned that off and it's ok. Still minor FPS loss but nothing for me to worry about.

My rig is following:
Intel core i5 3.46Ghz
Nvidia Geforce GTS 250 @ 1GB
Windows 7 ultimate x64

(the same details as joe gave)
I had about the same FPS as you had before I updated my graphic card drivers (maybe a little higher +32) :)
I bought it last summer for 800£:)

Mick- I work in a workshop- I know some bits & bobs :)

Fresh install from factory, I install Ultimate Defrag and make sure all *.dll *.exe *.sys are on the outer skirts of the hard drive (only works for mechanical hard drives, don't bother with a SSD)

Follow this guide, it's well written by somebody named Nick Needham. Also read his Windows 7 guide and if you have the newer nvidia drivers (I think their 2XX.XX+ ) read the 'alternative to nHancer guide'.

http://www.simforums.com/forums/setting-up-fsx-and-how-to-tune-it_topic29041.html

On a seperate HD (I have two 7200rpm HDDs, soon to get a 10k RPM velociraptor, or maybe a SSD):

Install FSX, load up default flight, turn off FSX, restart.
Install SP1, load up default flight, turn off FSX, restart.
Install SP2, load up default flight, turn off FSX, restart.

Defrag that HD by the same method above, *.exe, *.dll. And all files in the FSX directory to the outer skirts of the HDD, also ordered by File/Folder name, as my knowledge tells me FSX looks for files / folders in a alphabetical order.

I use Advanced SystemCare PRO to do alot of work, then use CCleaner to wipe some of the left overs.

I use resized autogen, too- but that shouldn't make a difference with quad cores, but every little helps with FSX LOL!

Install an addon:

Install
Restart
Defrag
Restart

I also use an external FPS limiter but with multi screens it looks like it mucks up.

I usually get 25-30FPS with my PMDG MD-11.

GEX Europe
UTX Europe
UK2000 Stansted, Gatwick, Birmingham and erm Manchester.
REX 2.0

Autogen is on very dense, so is scenery complexity, all the rest is maxed out other than:

water LOW 2.x (any higher results in terrible performance with bad GPUs and lots of bugs with shaders)

Cloud draw distance: all the way to the left
Cloud density or whatever its called: HIGH (not all the way to the right)

All traffic is off LOL traffic is useless IMO.

Oh and by the way, my GPU which is quite old lets be honest and is only ever used no more than 40% of its power, but all 4 of my cores are 100%

But i'm running a 17" monitor for FSX, and 15" monitor for browsing, undocked FSX windows, pilot assistant, VAFS, teamspeak, google chrome- LOL don't try running a 1080p video from youtube while on approach though LOL

Joe, I can see that when I play FSX my CPU if that's the processor always runs under 40%? Is it possible to get it to work even more which I hope would result in better gameplay? Is it dangerous for my processor or motherboard then I'm not interested:)

Google up 'Affinity Mask'. Alot of people have had that problem. I've not though. Make sure you have SP2

Only overclocking is dangerous if you don't do it properly- But it shouldn't be needed if you are running on 3.4 or more. I am saving for another motherboard to overclock my CPU as it's a pre-built PC and is locked to overclocking (bloody Acer)
